A public meeting was held in Dundee yesterday for the purpose of expressing sorrow and indignation at the assassination of President Lincoln. There was a large attendance of the most influential merchants – Provost Parker occupied the chair. On the motion of the Chamber of Commerce, seconded by Mr H. Fergusson, it was unanimously resolved to unite in declaring the profound sorrow and indignation with which the intelligence of President Lincoln’s assassination, and the attempted assassination of Mr Seward and his son, had been received; to express their profound respect for Mr Lincoln, and their admiration of his forbearance and moderation in the hour of triumph, and their deep sympathy with the American people, and with the afflicted families of the sufferers. It was agreed to transmit the resolution to the United States Embassy in London, through the Consul in Dundee.
